Ahoy Matey’s, time to give you our review of ACP.
This game has all the makings of a really great game on the IOS market. Have you ever thrown on an eye-patch, put a bandanna around your head, and grabbed an empty toilet paper roll to swing around like a terrifying cutlass? Well great news! This game allows you to be a pirate without requiring you to sacrifice the little dignity that you have left!
Upon opening the app, the first thing that you notice, is the vast scenery and the beautiful ocean that comes to life even more thanks to the intense musical score that goes along with the game. I’m not one to really care about music, so when i mention music in a game that means that i really like it, or I really don’t. In this case, the music is great! The music and the graphics alone intrigue me enough to keep playing, Add to that, the actual gameplay has a fresh new take and Ubisoft has created a true gem. Throughout this game you will be battling and searching for treasures, as well as following an interesting story-line. The one area that I feel I could grow a little weary of, is the battle system. The battle system is unique in ways, your ship will have skills which will require you to do different things such as, aim a scoped shot to hit an enemy’s weak spot which will do critical damage, however in avoiding enemies attacks, I wish i had more free will to maneuver instead of the “tap to dodge” technique.
Ubisoft has done a great job in fleshing out this game with content, things from searching and finding hidden treasures, to hiring new recruits that will provide skills (such as faster ship speed). They also have achievements for completionists, extra challenges for you to face during quests, and what seems to be collectible lore, in which as you collect messages in the bottle which will tell you about different pirates, and reward you for your findings. I have no doubt that that any “swash- buckling pirate lover” would fall head over heels for this game.
Graphics: 5 out of 5
Ubisoft has done a great job of making picturesque games, and Assassins Creed Pirates is not an exception. Beautiful 3D colored graphics, will make you think you are actually captain of the high seas.
Gameplay: 4 out of 5
ACP is a great truly fleshed out game with content galore. The only reason it loses a point here is because they probably could have been a bit more creative with the battle systems.
Sounds: 5 out of 5
ACP delivers a knockout blow with the musical score. If you want to feel like a true captain then you need a great musical score to accompany you on your journey, and don’t worry this game delivers just that.
Controls: 4 out of 5
This game allows you to feel as if you are truly sailing your own ship. However there were times when I scratched my head because the steering of the ship wouldn’t quite read the direction I was swiping my finger. Other than that everything seems to work fine, and controls were fairly good.
Price: 5 out of 5
$4.99 and no IAP’s. This game is a lot of fun, for not a lot of money! ’nuff said
Overall Score: **PURE GENIUS** (4.6 out of 5)
Any fan of Assassins Creed, or for that matter any fan of pirates, or any fan of games in general should download this app. You can sail your own ship, acquire new skills and capture a ton of BOOTY!
